Kundalini Yoga in Sintra

The yoga that lifts your energy

Kundalini Yoga combines movement, breath and sound in sequences worked out down to the last detail. From the outside it looks demanding. But inside, something else happens: the body wakes up, the mind settles, and you leave with an energy that stays with you for the rest of the day.

What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness, also called the yoga of awakening. Here the posture isn't the centre: the centre is the combination of movement, breath, sound and focus, all working at the same time.

At the heart of every class is a kriya. Kriya means action in Sanskrit, and that's exactly what it is: a series of exercises that work together, with a set order, timing and breath, to reach a precise goal. There are kriyas to strengthen the nervous system, to balance the glands, to activate your centre of energy, to clear the mind. Nothing is there by chance.

It's a demanding practice and, at the same time, very accessible. The movements are simple and you need no flexibility and no fitness. What's asked of you is to hold the rhythm and the breath, and that's where the body responds.

It's a very efficient kind of yoga, made for people with work, home and little time. In ninety minutes you work the body, the breath and the mind.

What is kundalini energy?

The word kundalini refers to a vital energy that exists in everyone and that, in the yoga tradition, is described as dormant at the base of the spine. It's nothing esoteric or reserved for a few: it's your own potential, still waiting to be used.

It's worth not confusing the two. Kundalini energy is that potential; Kundalini Yoga is the practice that awakens it, slowly and with method, and moves it up through the body's energy centres, the chakras. One is the "what", the other is the "how".

That awakening isn't sudden or spectacular. It's gradual. Breath, movement and sound prepare the body and the nervous system at their own pace, and what you feel, class after class, is above all more energy, more clarity and more presence. It isn't the posture that transforms you. It's the formula.

Kundalini Yoga is not explained; it is felt.

What you gain with Kundalini Yoga

Energy

Energy that does not fade in the middle of the afternoon. It sustains you the whole day and still leaves something for after work.

Clarity and focus

The practice trains attention. You become more present in what you do and less scattered.

A strong nervous system

It does not prevent difficult days. It gives you the steadiness to get through them.

Who is Kundalini Yoga for?

There are several kinds of people who find each other in Kundalini Yoga, and you might recognise yourself in more than one. People who want their energy back. If you're running on autopilot and ending your days with nothing left in the tank, the practice works exactly there: it doesn't push you, it lifts you. People who train and want balance. If you play sport and run, surf or cycle, Kundalini Yoga gives you the counterweight: it works the breath, the posture and the focus, and helps the body stay aligned and recover. People who already practise yoga and want to try something different. Kundalini Yoga is a new style to explore, with breath, sound and meditation, and an effect quite different from what you already know. People looking for something more than exercise. Many start practising at a time of personal change, or with a wish to wake up to their own life.

How are the classes?

I'm Patricia, Krishan Atma Kaur, and I'm the one who guides you from start to finish. Each class lasts 90 minutes and always follows the same structure, though each class has a different theme. Along the way, I correct you, adjust what needs adjusting, and always show you how to ease off if it gets too much.

  1. 01

    Warm-up

We prepare the spine and the breath with simple movements. This is where the body lands and the head switches off from the day.

  2. 02

    Kriya

The heart of the class. A series of exercises that work together, with their own rhythm and pauses, aimed at a specific goal.

  3. 03

    Relaxation

You lie down and do nothing. It's the contrast that creates the effect: after the work, the body lets go all at once and takes in the benefits of the practice.

  4. 04

    Meditation

A few minutes to settle the mind. Sometimes in silence, sometimes with a mantra, which works as an anchor for your focus.

  5. 05

    Closing

We close together, and you leave with an awake calm that usually lasts the rest of the day.
